Before the grammar police raid this site-I know that the dictionary says that salmon is pronounced with a silent "L". salmon I also know that in my home growing up, we pronounced it with the "L". I don't know how much of this was due to the fact that my brother really had a hard time learning to properly pronounce words, or how much of it was just how this particular word was said in our house. I mean, come on, it does have an "L"....so why not pronounce it? I am a grown up, and I would say that I have earned the right to say salmon however I want to. (OK, I know it really doesn't work that way, but I doubt any serious damage will be done if I do) My son, whom I home schooled, whom I taught to speak, read and write, who is only 14, is the one that informed me that the proper pronunciation of the word dictates the "L" is silent. I protested like a 4 year old ::grinz:: and ruled (as the mother of the house) that in our house that the word salmon would be pronounced with an L. (OK at least by me-my husband says it without the L and it drives me nuts LOL)
So I went and got my son's trusty dictionary while he was occupied one night and made "corrections" of the pronunciation of the word salmon. I added notes throughout the dictionary so that he would never forget that here, in our home...I say it with the L.
As if to mock me, earlier in the week after this incident, we watched a few different shows where the word salmon was said again and again. It was like torture! LOL I will probably say salmon with an L until I die....and grin doing so knowing it is probably wrong...but enjoying the fact that here in my house, I can say it that way and get away with it.
Here is a picture of me editing the dictionary! I am sure there are many other words that I should make corrections of, and will-just give me time! Incorrect Grammar Indeed! (and if the above has any "Incorrect grammar-I don't want to know-I love living in grammar ignorant bliss...school is over and I am free! I used to care...I do not now and these little .....'s are my best friends now as I type)
