Cesar Millan-The Dog Whisperer

Friday Nights 8 PM

National Geographic Channel

We were over at my mother's house a few weeks ago. She was trying to find a show that my son, Christopher, would enjoy watching while we were there. She stumbled on The Dog Whisperer Show. My son loves dogs of all sizes, shapes and colors so she left it there for him to watch. We were all drawn in by how this man, Cesar Millan, can go into someones home and help them rebalance their dog from very antisocial behavior to being very balanced as he calls it and the way the dog should be. It's like Nanny 911 for dogs! My mother taped a few shows for us here and there since. As a family we are facinated by this show and the way he works to get the dogs to do what he wants them to do. While he recognizes the dog as a very important member of the family, he also recognizes that the dog is JUST a dog...and that it wants to be a dog and needs to be socialized as such.

I wrote this blog entry about a year and a half ago about some of the challenges we were having with our cocker spaniel Bayley. While many of the things suggested were a great help to getting Bayley back on track, he still often will fight against a haircut,(though less now that we have a muzzle for him) a bath(though less now that we have a better routine for it), and exhibits anti social behavior to other dogs while on his walk(something definitely worth working on since he really enjoys being outside). Watching this show has really made us rethink some of how we respond to Bayley and some of what might be happening in his mind as we go through the episodes. We are on the waiting list at the library to check out his book, Cesar's Way.

I laughed out loud when i heard the title of this show, but it does sound pretty cool if he really can communicate with dogs
